Mary River N.T.

Thursday Hi we are staying at Mary River Park, only $23 a night. and what  a beautiful Park. We have great sites.
We went for a walk down to the river, and up to the pool, had a swim.
The park is green and lush, The people here are very nice.
We met people that were beside Tez and I at Oasis in Darwin.
Tez went and put His Cheribin nets in , but didn`t do any good. He also went for a fish ,There was a few crocks hanging around. Scared him off a bit.

Friday John ,Sandy, and I went on a cruise on the Corroborree Billabong.
We were met at The Tavern by a young man called Sean.
He was our tour guide, So knowledgeable, He had lived with the Aboriginals for six years.
We were on the billabong for an hour for thirty dollars, he picked us up and took us back.
We saw an amazing amount of birds and crocks and learned so much about the Billabong
Then we drove to Fog Dam A little disappointed, Walked all around.

Saw heaps of crocks, no way do you want to swim in these waters.

I had a bad case of Vertigo for two days, seems to have eased off a little now.

We left for Kakadu Sunday 28th

Darwin. N.T.

Hi everyone,
Well, we have reached Darwin, N.T. Last Thursday.
Every day is 34 deg. Clear blue sky`s. The only plus is this caravan park has a pool.
On Thursday night we went to the Mindl Market for dinner, lots of different varieties of food. Not allot of other stalls, or bargains.
The down side was we were all eaten alive by Midge's. Steven and I have been coping them for quite some time. But Tez and John also were attacked this time.

Friday, had a full day cleaning, after being at Dundee with dirt roads. It needed scrubbing.

On Saturday we went to the markets fruit and veg, Then replenished supplies
The girls arrived back early hours Saturday morning.
They had a nice time with family for the past week.

Sunday, went to an Asian market, it was good.Picked up Mango's, Star apples, Jack Fruit. Soft banana
waffles, Home made coconut and mango ice creams on a stick.
Then we did a tour of Darwin. We started at the Dockyards where the fishing trawlers all come in.
Then we went down to Fisherman's Wharf, and had lunch. I had a Crock Burger. I cannot tell you what it was like. As it was so thin  and covered in breadcrumbs, it had no taste. I was disappointed.
We then drove up to the Bicentennial  park, where Tez sat in the shade while we all walked.
Up past Parliament House, Government House The old Gaol, and Police station. Down the steps to the water, where you can swim . The gardens all through  Darwin are absolutely beautiful.
Along the waterfront to the chair theatre. then the trek up 100 plus steps to the top to meet Tez.
A very full day as usual, but a very nice day.

Monday, did allot of ringing around, time for new tyres on our car, and maintenance on the van.

Tuesday,  We dropped the car off to have our tyres replaced and then John  took us  around all day.
Went to the museum, where they had the Telstra awards for Aboriginal Art, That was beautiful.
Also had a section on Cyclone Tracey, even recorded sounds of what it was like on that day.Had morning tea in there cafe`.  Everyone enjoyed the the museum it was very well presented .Over looking Fanny bay, It was spectacular.
Then we went to Casurina Shopping centre, where Sandy needed to have her eyes tested. Yes she needed
reading glasses.

Wednesday we went to Mandorah on the Ferry across the bay, Had a nice lunch,a swim in the pool ,heard from Coralie.
On the way home we were down on the jetty waiting for the ferry, when an aboriginal guy,[ intoxicated]
come to have a chat. He had only half his teeth, personal hygiene left allot to be desired.
Over and over again he kept saying I think you catch something, and Tez kept saying I don`t have a line.
When he moved over to talk to Carol. Tez Said did he stutter.
When he was with Carol he started to sing to her. We couldn't`t stop laughing.
 Then he cuddled John,
The smell was pretty bad, So Sandy got out the wet ones on the boat and proceeded to wipe John over.
 Another great day.

This town is so clean , even the Highways. They have people driving along on 4 wheel bikes with big bins on them collecting rubbish. N.S.W. needs to take lessons.
We have been buying boxes of Mango's 19 mango's for $15.00  BEAUTIFUL. Rockmellons $3.00each , Large Pineapples $6.00each. Strawberries $3.00 a punnet. So lots of fruit every night after dinner. AMAZING.

Thursday Stephen Put his car in for service, while waiting for the phone call to say it was ready. Instead he recieived one to say someone ran into him, and he has $2000. worth of damage.
The worst part is there is a waiting list for work to be done of 4 weeks. Lucky it is drivable so he is having it fixed in Perth when we get there.

Friday we went to Crocodylus in Darwin, to see Crocs and Reptiles, that John and Carol held, not for Tez , Sand , and me. Thank you
Then off to a picnic in the park, and to the open day at Government House, Where we all enjoyed the gardens, and the home of the N.T. Governor. Beautiful.

Saturday. Sandy, John, Tez and I  decided to go to Fanny Bay, For a look.
On the way we found yet another market at Parap. Oh boy were they good.
They had clothes ,Jewelery, flowers, plants, veggies, food stalls, photo prints ect.
Sandy bought 2 dresses, I bought hair clips . Tez his spring rolls, he enjoys them. Lots of fruit and veg.
We liked them much better than Mindl.
We ate lunch and then we went to Fanny Bay walked around the waterfront, where the water was so beautiful.
It is a very pretty spot with beautiful homes, especially the white house.
Then we drove To East point reserve, past Lake Alexander, up to the Military Museum.

Sunday we thought today we would have an easy day we had a picnic lunch at Lake Alexandre.
We had prawn and Mango Salad, Oh! life is so hard Ha!  Ha!
Sat by the lake and had a beautiful day.
Went home and had a baked Pork Dinner.

Monday Tez went to the doctors to get new scripts.

Tuesday Tez and I had the Mobile Mechanic come to do a service on our van.
We new we needed to have the bearings done. Then he found that one of the leaf on the  suspension was cracked, and advised us to have our whole suspension renewed.
So we booked that in for Thursday morning on our way to Kakadu. Just as well as they said the other side was going as well.
Yesterday Carol and Stephen found out that their credit card had been skimmed, In America. They don`t know how , or when. It is under the Freud squad for investigation..

.
We went to the war museum, on the bombing of Darwin, Unbelievable.

For the past two weeks we have had a very busy time in Darwin, one way or another.

Dundee Beach

Wow ,
We arrived at Dundee around 11am, as we drove in all Terry could say was I can smell the salt.
All of us were met by our friends Sharon and Paul at the boat ramp. Right, smack, bang on the beach.
None of us had seen  salt water, since N.S.W.
We all got out of our cars going OOhhhh!!!My God. How beautiful is this.
Carol reckoned, Tez was like a kid in a candy store, and he was.
It is another beautiful part of Australia.Approx. 100 ks south west of Darwin.
Even though you can`t see it, It is almost surrounded by land.
During the day when they are burning off over the other side, it looks like the Timor Sea is on fire.
After all that, We booked in to the caravan park known as the Lodge. [as even though Shaz and Paul have 50 acres, it isn`t all cleared, and we had 3 vans, a bit much to ask.
Sharon and Paul drove us around everywhere, to show us sites available.
We all decided the Caravan Park was the shadiest and best for all of us.
So after setting up, Paul and Sharon, took us on a tour of  Dundee. It is not a big Place but I am sure in the past 5 days we have been to every nook and cranny of Dundee. Met everyone, Been outside fishing, John caught a  Spanish  Mackerel around 9kilo. Fed 8 people with some left over .
Caught  12 mud crabs, cooked and ate them, two days in a row, [what a life]. Could get used to this.
Today they went up the river and Tez caught a Golden Trevally, weighing 6kilo. took him 15 mins to get him in. So tea tonight??????
Paul went away for a couple of days with a neighbour, but left the boys his tinnie, to go fishing.
There is only one thing wrong here. you cannot swim because of the crocks. To make matters worse the water looks so beautiful.
Sharon, The day the boys went out fishing, took us three girls plus two other women, in her four wheel drive
and took us on a tour. It was Fantastic. Then Paul and Sharon come back to have dinner with us
Every afternoon we go to the waterfront to watch the sunset and have drinks and nibbles. No wonder I am not loosing weight. But what fun....
Tonight we are going to the Lodge to see an Entertainer called Fat Thomo??????
Will let you know.
Everything here is at a very slow pace. This will give you an idea.
Tuesday, Sandy and Carol went home for a week, to see their children.
Sharon had told us about this market on Saturday morning, said I needed to be the first in line for these nice pants, the girls and I wanted.
So up I get when the boys went Fishing. Keep looking out can`t see any movement.
So over I go at 8-30am, nothing.
Call at the lodge, " Is there a market to-day? " "Yes" What time. " 10am it starts. Oh! O.K.
Stephen said " at least you were first there".
Saturday night we all went to see Fat Thomo.
He is a Comedian ,who impersonates other entertainers, and interacts with the audience.
Needless to say John and I were the brunt of most of his acts.
We have never laughed so much in all our lives.
It is a bit hard to write it all down, but we do have it on video, we just can`t transfer it to our blog.
that is a shame, as I think you all would get a huge laugh out of it.
Paul come back on the Sunday night, rang and said we are all going out for about five hours tomorrow, be ready about 9am.
So off we go for one day in the life of Paul Smedley. We all pile into there Toyota  four wheel drive , boat in tow.
Started off up a dirt road on to the beach, then up through a property gate,., up into a mud patch  where we were bogged of corse.3/4 of an hr latter on our way again, through sand and tall grass we see pigs.
One boar five sours and six piglets. He stops the car jumps out starts running after one of the piglets.
Didn`t catch any, we don`t even know where they disappeared to.
Back in the car again, down to the beach driving along the sand.,Paul is still talking about the pigs, Sharon says isn`t that "Popeye mullet Paul?"
"Yes, great bait . Stops the car again, Pulls out a cast net runs down the beach to catch these mullet.
Drives down the beach to the Finniss  river,Launches the boat.and takes the boys fishing.
Sharon and I had a nice time walking, collecting shells, and taking Photos.Plus catching up on old times.
Then Sharon taught me how to use the cast net.
They come back, about 3hrs latter, Stephen has a nice Barra.
We have lunch,Shaz and I went crock Spotting down the river in the boat for about an hour . Camera at the ready. We spotted 12 all together. Some Would pose no worries, others took off into the water as soon as they heard the boat.Back to the beach where the boys were.
They all pile in again, off to do a little more fishing. [none this time]
The tide has dropped considerably, ,5 to 6 mt rs, so the scull drag the boat up the bank with a tow rope.
We all get in the car to go home sunburned, muddy, and tired.10hrs latter.
Oh! but what an adventure, it was fantastic.
We all had the best 9 days, with the most hospitable people you could want to meet.
Thank you both so much, for such a great time.

Berry Springs

We are still in Litchfield but we had to move camp, as we had to do a shop. So we are here for two days.
Yesterday we left Litchfield to drive 60ks up the road towards Darwin.
We Laughed as we said we couldn't`t decide where to have morning tea, when we did  decide we were already at our destination
Went and did our shop. As we are going tomorrow to stay with some people we have known, for thirty years, but havn`t seen for about twenty years.
When Tez and I first come to the Central Coast we rented a house off this boys Mum and Dad, and they lived next door to us.
His wife Sharon was our youngest daughters girlfriend, when they were growing up and she lived in our street.
We have always kept in touch with Paul's Family, so he kindly invited us to come to Dundee Beach [100 ks
south of Darwin ] to stay on their 50acre property, for a week.
He has a tinny and mud crab pots waiting for us to use, so Tez is very excited.
So our next adventure will be from Dundee Beach.
This is a very disorganised town. No Tourist information centre, plenty of signs to tell you there is, but there isn`t. Flyer's with no phone numbers,no street maps, no street signs, and no signage for business.
Tez and John were going to go to a Barra farm to catch barra. Took approx 2hrs to find and 6people to ask as well as stopping at a house on the way.
Even the web site wouldn`t go through. When they finally got through on the phone, they were booked out.
We are all wondering how.
Stephen Carol and I, today went to The Territory Wildlife Park. It was Fantastic.
Then we met the rest of the group for lunch at the Litchfield Pub,That also was very nice.
Oh! thought I would just rub salt into the wounds, It is still 33deg. Every day.
We were only saying if this is winter, I don`t think I would like to be here in the Summer.

Litchfield National Park.

25-7-11
Today we are on our way to Litchfield National Park. To stay at Litchfield Tourist Park, for 5 days.
We took a secondary road for the first 30ks. Then the Stuart Hwy.
This place is incredible, every water fall , every walk, every water hole. Is just so pristine.
The water is so pure you can drink it. It has no minerals at all. Nothing will even grow in it.
We all say that our favourite swimming hole is Buley Rock hole. We went there a few times.
We went and saw the giant  Magnetic termite mounds. The Blyth Homestead Ruins. The lost City [that should stay lost] Six different waterfalls and plunge pools. Also went to the Bachelor Fair on Saturday that was good as well, for a very small town. Bought some Mango chutney and Rosella jam.
We all have really enjoyed our time here.
The owner of the property has allowed us to take a Jack fruit off one of the trees. We have to wait for it to ripen a little more, but can`t wait they are very nice.

Douglas Waters

We left Katherine on the 23-7-11 for Douglas Waters.
It is now 31 to 33deg, every day, pretty hard to take.
On our drive in today we saw our first Cattle drive, all on horse back.It was on us before we new it, so no time to take a photo.
I was so disappointed, It felt for the first time as we really were right in the outback of  Australia.
We are staying at a caravan park called, Douglas Daly for 2 days,Great spot, very pretty, with lots of birds.
More hot springs, but I think we will have to go a long way to find hot springs as good as Mataranka.
When we went down to this one, one of the holes was 55deg. It was hard to put your foot in let alone your body.Although there was one man and a lady stayed in there for at least 30 minutes, how we don`t know.
They should have been cooked.
Tez went fishing yesterday to drown some prawns, caught 20 fish sooty grunters all to small, The only thing that was big was a Python on the bridge that was between him and his car. So he couldn't come home. He!He! [Photos available, click on N.T.]
Very nice Park lots of wildlife, Very Tropical, clean, and well cared for..
Tomorrow we head for Litchfield National Park.
