Horricks to Greenough.

Windy Always is living up to its name.
We were informed, that there is a good side to that as well. That is there are no flies, and it keeps the heat down.
That is possible as it is only 29deg at the moment,  and still no rain.
7months since we left home, and rain still evades us.
Fishing is still a problem because of the wind, also there has been a closure because of the breading season. That finishes on the 15th December.
Tez and I left first, as we wanted to call in and see the Pink lake at Port Gregory. It was overcast so the lake wasn`t that pink, but you can see it.
Then headed off to North Hampton. to see an old church and shop.
We all travelled to Horricks for two days, relaxed did some sight seeing, not allot to see, it is a very       small town.
Sandy and I cooked an Apple Pie for our Xmas tea with Donna and Phil.
She also died my hair for me. I appreciate that so much. There is no where to have it done around here, so we do each others, so one good turn deserves  another.
Tez and john went fishing. John caught a nice Taylor so we had fish dinner, with prawns. Not to be sneezed at.
We left there and went to Geraldton.
Sandy and John are still without their van, so they have been staying in cabins at their own cost.
We only stayed at this Park for two days, till Sandy and John go home For Xmas.
When we arrived our sight was next to Donna and Phil, So Donna being Donna she put the kettle on for a cuppa, for when we had set up. They are very special people.
Then Sandy, Donna and I went into Cole's to shop for our Xmas Dinner that night.
The Caravan park had a beautiful camp kitchen, that we were able to use, so that made life very easy.
The next day we did washing etc. That night all had our dinner then went to Sandy and Johns cabin to finish off the apple pie and ice cream. As no one has room for those type of things. Each of us exchanged cards and it was a very nice night.
Today we have all gone our separate ways.
Us to Greenough, Sandy and John to Perth,Donna and Phil leave in two days for Dongara.
So till the New Year when we meet again.

Kalbarri.W.A.

Our Holiday has now taken us to the beautiful Kalbarri.
We are staying at The Anchorage Caravan park.
Donna and Phil arrived the day before and are staying at the Tudor, But Tez had to be near the water.
As we were setting up, Sarah and Matt arrived, He couldn't`t wait to go fishing with Tez.
They came back for happy hour and organised the next morning for Matt to pick Tez up and take him Beach fishing for Taylor at Wittecarra . Kalbarri.
Sarah and I were going walking  along the beach at the front of us to China mans Beach it takes about an hour .
It was great to catch up again, they are such a lovely couple.
So the next morning we all set out on our adventures planed the day before.
Matt got one Taylor Tez  none. Since then it has done nothing but blow.
The next day they were supposed to leave but stayed an extra day with us, so we invited them and Donna and Phil around for Happy hour, so they could  meet each other.
Everyone enjoyed each others company it was good.
It is good because you catch up quite often, so it is nice to see a friendly face, you are never lonely.
Before going home that afternoon, Donna made the same arrangement with me, to go walking The next morning. So Tez and Phil were going Fishing.
Next morning Tez Had to renege as he had been pushed around by the surf and his back didn`t like it.
Donna and I still kept our date so off we went, and collected a few bright Orange shells.[Oh! no.]
Sarah and Matt left that day and headed for Dongara.
Tez and I went to pay bills and also went for a look around the town.
While driving we saw an add for The Murchason River Homestead. They were having a Muso night on Saturday night in their wool shed.
Plus we had also found a place advertised for dinner ,called Finlay`s Fish or beef BBQ
Drove to Blue Holes very pretty. Jake's Point. Red Bluff Beach and Red bluff Point. The views are unbelievable.
Then we went looking for cabins for Sandy and John, as they are coming back to Kalbarri to be with us while they wait for their van to be repaired.
That afternoon we went and had happy hour with Donna and Phil, and also met up with some other people we had met along the way, Sue and Phil arrived from Denham and Fay and Bruce were our neighbours in Port Headland when we got our van back so that was nice.
We put it to all at happy hour about the nights out and they were impressed. So it was Friday night for Finlay`s fish BBQ, and Saturday for the Muso`s night. Everyone seemed quite happy about going.
Got back to have dinner at 7pm These happy hours are becoming very extended.
The next morning Donna and I went walking and picking up shells [ just a few] We leave at 7am it is great.
Then Sandy and John arrived so Donna made everyone a cup of tea for morning tea it was great.
So Donna, Sandy John and I all went to the Rainbow Jungle Bird Sanctuary. It was so very hot there, the poor birds were all sitting with their wings out and their tongues hanging out, poor things, I wanted to let them out to fly away.
There were some beautiful birds there though.
Then Sandy and John had us all at their cabin for happy hour.
Next morning Sandy John and I all went to the Kalbarri National Park.
Donna and Phil also went out there, It was so hot we were all back by lunch even though we went separately, we all had the same idea.
Altogether 10 of us now, turned into 12 for our dinner to Finlay`s fish BBQ.
OH! it was great what a place so cheap.
Their add reads Australia's famous tin shed, The old fish factory. Seafood under the stars, no frills, no service, no corking charges, no glasses, no waiters, no carpets,no table cloths, no bookings, just rock up to a seafood and steak grill to remember.
Everyone had a ball, it was fantastic.[check out the photos on the blog] heaps of memorabilia. Toilet rolls for serviettes, BYOB.
We had 3 large pieces of red emperor plus chips, salad and fried rice That I could not eat it all for
$18-00 a head. Desert was very large servings of Apple crumble and ice cream $5-00. That is only one of the choices. There were approximately 10 varieties of desert ranging from $3 to $5-00.
We couldn't`t believe it.
The amount of people that were there was incredible. One lady did all the cooking on her own. nothing seemed to faze her she said she loves it. What a worker.
It is only open Fri, Sat, and Sunday nights now, as she needed a rest.[ wonder why]
We all thought it was fantastic, she even cooked special seafood for Sandy as she is Celiac. Nothing was a problem.
Then came Saturday night.
Murchason House Station. [a working station Built in 1800,]  Muso`s night in the shearers shed.
It started at 5-30 till 10pm  $20 per head included a hamburger for adults, or sausage sizzle for kids.
Sandy had to take her tea to that one but she didn`t mind.
BYOB, bring your own chairs etc.desert was an ice cream cone $1-00 each. [we find the bargains]he!he!
That was another good night, heaps of laughs, everyone seems to get on very well and it is lots of fun.
Donna, Phil, Bruce, and Fay all left for different destinations today.
Sandy and John went on a tour of beaches etc, so did Tez and I separately, then met latter for happy hour.
Tomorrow we head for two nights at Horricks beach.

Monday 28 November 2011

Denham. Shark Bay.

Oh my goodness did we have a drive down from Canarvan, to Denham.
After travelling 100ks John and Sandy were in front of us, When their wheel come off the front left hand side of the van, come out the side and then flew across the back of the van and straight across the road, between our vehicles.
It was so scary, We were not hurt, as we were quite away back, enough to not be involved. Thank God.
Poor Sandy and John were shaken of course, the poor devils.
No one can believe that they are having so much bad luck.
But thinking positive no one was hurt. Just their van. It had to be towed back to Canarvan. So they followed it back.
They were lucky it got to there. As the tow truck driver was unbelievably dreadful.
He almost tipped the van off the truck. After having two chances to place it on the truck and two hours latter.
They were able to take off.
Sandy and John were in the N.R.M.A. road service, so they were covered for accommodation, in
Canarvan. They have stayed in a cabin at Winter Sun Caravan Park the same park we had just left.
They had the people look at the van in Canarvan, He has said it will have to be towed to Geraldton on
Monday as it can`t be done in Canarvan.
So Sandy and John are going down there too. That will be a huge drive for them in one day, poor buggers. They do not know how long it will be before it will be repaired till they get to Geraldton.
When they were on their way to Canarvan and there wasn`t any more we could do, Tez and I went on to
Denham. We arrived at 5pm. All pretty sunburned, plus covered in dirt, after being in the Sun all day, also the road trains flying passed we were all covered in dirt. Poor Sandy and John I don`t use sunscreen, and they couldn't` get theirs.  They must have really coped it. I was fine but Tez was a bit burned.
We had all had a very long day.
Sandy and Johns was very stressful, Tez and I felt very sorry for them.
We were also very sorry to say that the whole time that Sandy and I stood waiting for Tez and John to return, as they had no service on our phones, They had to drive up the road to get on to the N.R.M.A.
Out of  fifty cars two pulled up to see if we were o.k. and one of those were people we new.
The other people were an English couple on holiday here.
Not one Ozzie. Good on ya mate.
That is pretty sad when you think about it.
The next day Tez and I went and done some sight seeing around Denham.
We went down to Monkey Mia we were disappointed very over rated and a rip off.
The second stop was Little lagoon, where all the windsurfers go. That was very pretty, around the whole lagoon there were all these sun shelters and barbecues, everyone was spotless.
Then we drove to shell beach, where the whole beach is shells that they make bricks out of.
Next was Goulet Bluff very nice, two free camps Whalebone and Fowler's camp Not as big as we thought and no one out there, but it was very windy.
The next stop was Eagle Bluff it was spectacular, they had a wonderful boardwalk that gave you the best view of sharks and rays in the water, it was beautiful.
Then back at around 2pm to be met by some friends we have made through travelling. Donna and Phil
and Sue and Phil who asked us up for Happy Hour.
Today started with Donna and Phil coming to say bye, Till tomorrow as they have gone on to Kalbarri.  So we went to the Shark Aquarium.
The tour guide was amazing, very informative, and he was from The Hunter. So he was very excited to see us.
We also met Sue and Phil there as well, and they are from Newcastle. So this young man thought it was incredible.
He was a very knowledgeable young man. We come back to the van had lunch and wrote some letters. Then Sue and Phil come down for Happy Hour, It was a great day.

Canarvan, W.A.

On Tuesday, Carol, Stephen , Tez and I, all left Sandy and John at the Coral Bay turn off, As they headed for Exmouth once again to have their fridge replaced.
The drive to Canarvan, was not very interesting. Although going from A to B on the West Coast is very boring, the landscape dose not change. Very flat no wild life and the vegetation is Spinafix and rock, no mountains, just flat.i
Canarvan is disappointing as everything we hoped to see here has finished for the year. There year finishes in October, as the wet season is about to start.
They have a jetty here that runs out to sea for 1klm, 2months ago the kids burned it down half way along.
You need to be able to go right out to fish, so that is out also.
This Jetty has an old Museum that is closed. The jetty also has an old Puffa Billy train that runs to the end of the jetty and takes you out or back. But because of the fire that isn`t going either.
So we decided to go to a fish factory, where they have their own fleet of 10 boats that harvest scollop's and prawns. Then they show you how to process them. So we thought that could be interesting. [heard this on the radio]. So off to the tourist information centre to book. Oh! we keep telling them to change that add as it has not been going for 4 years now.
We thought o.k. while we  are still waiting for Sandy and John, to have their fridge fixed, as they had the old fridge taken out, put the new one in, BUT the new one dosn`t work either. So they are still held up in Exmouth. Not knowing what is going to be done.
Instead of staying here with not much to do we decided to go out to Quobba Point and stay, as there is a camp out there that only costs $5-00 per day. You have to be self sufficient but it was great.
So off we go to Quobba, it only took us 45minuets to get there, we set up had lunch, and went sight seeing.
Some people we have met on our stops Donna and Phil from Alice Springs. Were coming out for the day, as there was a Memorial Service for the H.M.A.S. Sydney II. 70 years after they were attacked, 80 miles off Western Australia. Phil's uncle was on that ship, so they were going.
So Cas and I went and saw the Ranger and got permission to pick the wild flowers, and we made two Bouquets one for Donna and Phil  and one for us as we went too, It was lovely.
Even though it was very Windy out there we still went walking, Fishing etc. Found a few more shells He!He!He!..... Made our way back on Tuesday as Sandy and John are back at Canarvan[still with no fridge in their van] So they have something they have given them a 50ltr Waeco fridge to get them to Geralton, where they can get another new fridge. UNBELIEVABLE.
Whilst here in Canarvon we will replenish stocks, do the washing Clean the Vehicles again.
The best part about Canarvon you can go straight to the farms and buy your fruit and Veges very cheap, and with beautiful flavour. The Strawberries are Beautiful.
Tonight Carol surprised all of us by decorating all the table with xmas decorations, seeing we wont be together, and she is leaving us.
So from tomorrow on Sandy John Tez and I will be on our own, As Cas and Stephen have seen this part of the coast, so they are going on to Perth to see Karen and David Thom's
Then on the the 10th of December Sandy and John Fly home till the 6th of Jan. So we will be on our own  for about 1 month till we all get back together again.
It is now 7 months since we have been on the road.
Tez and I can`t believe it , we have seen some amazing places and things.
You keep wondering what is around the next Corner.
We are always surprised, as every day is a Sunday .

Coral Bay..

Hi Everyone,
Well this place should be called, Snorkelers Paradise.
Coral Bay is a very small place it is only 1 klm and that consits of two caravan parks, two small shopping centres. Mainly tourist tour shops  and dive shops Plus a pub and resort. That is it.
Since leaving home 6 month ago, This town has the most young people, as well as grey nomads, it is great.
It is heaven here. there is only one problem this time of year is the wind. It never stops blowing, 25knotts. Although we feel if there wasn`t a wind it would be too hot. So it keeps the temperature down a little. So take the good with the bad.
We are all staying in the Peoples caravan Park, that is right on the water, with different sites, Tez preferred to be right smack on the beach, the others went up the back with a few minuets walk down.
But we have every day on the beach, and dinner together most days.
We have walked around the beach to the shark nursery.
On Sunday John, Sandy, Stephen, Carol, and myself all went on a snorkeling cruise in a glass bottom boat. That was something else.  Cas reckons that that was the highlight of her trip so far.For someone who didn`t feel confidant in the water, we are now calling her Val, every opportunity they get her and Sandy are wanting to go back into the water and snorkel. They are very good.
Even though I like it I can still hear that Jaws Music.
Although the scene under there is a garden under the sea it is magic.
The colours of the fish are A M A Z I N G. We are diving on Ningaloo Reef.
This is the only country in the world that has a coral reef on the west side of a country. That in its self is
A M A Z I N G.
Tez and the boys went around to where they could fish yesterday afternoon. [ as most of this is a sanctuary] Although  the wind was very bad he still managed to catch a large Queen Fish. No photo the boys didn`t take a camera, It come back in fillets. Sorry.....
This has been a very relaxing place.
Oh! another thing is the water you  use is artisan boar water, very salty. Then you go to a special tap to get your drinking water. It seems like it will be like this for a fare way down the coast.
When and if, you ever come here you have to have all your food as there is only a very small very expensive super market. One small piece of sweet potato $2-65. Those stripped bags $2-00 at The Reject Shop. Here they are $5 -80 each. A tin of curry powder $4-80. So you cant afford to buy anything here.
We are going to Canarvan tomorrow so Woollies is there and it will cost us a fortune as we will be refilling the cupboards, as we have almost hit rock bottom.
Cas and Stephen are going with us, but Sandy and John have to go back to Exmouth to have their new fridge installed. YES!!!!! Dometic, have finally agreed to replace their fridge. It has only taken 11 months. So they will stay to make sure all is o.k. then meet us further on.
It wont be long and we will be on our own for awhile as everyone is doing something different for Xmas.
Then we all meet again, mid January.
So that will seem strange, But it will be good for all probably.
Heard from Sarah and Matt last night, They have their van all fixed now.
Matt has bought a new rod so can`t wait to meet up with us again, so he can go fishing with Tez and the boys, again.

Exmouth. W.A.

Well we are on our way to Exmouth, Today is Melbourne Cup Day.
Three days ago when we were in  Port Sampson, having happy hour with Matt and Sarah we said we would have a sweep, for The Race. Sarah  chose the horses and persons to go with them, we all had three horses each, at  $2-00 a horse.
As we drove along the highway it was getting close to the time of the race, as we are three hours behind.
Cas gets on the two way, "Di can you get a station on the radio?"
"Our aerial hasn`t been up in ages as it is full of dust."
Everyone laughs at me. and says they don`t believe it.
So no one else can get a station without static.
On goes our radio, up goes the aerial, yesssss. Perfect.
"Everyone pull over."
The Race that stops the Nation.
Cas 1st  Di 2nd  Steve 3rd  Sarah last. but she received $2-00 back for running last.
O.K. back in the cars lets go, it is very hot here.
On our way that day we saw allot of Willy Willies, or as Tez has Christened them Jimmy Jimmies I have no idea why.
But Sandy was able to get a good picture of one.
We arrived, set up. Sandy rang about their fridge, and I rang about the Skylight that had to be replaced over the shower.
The young man I rang said I can be there in ten minutes. I was amazed, couldn't`t believe it.
But yes he was here in ten minutes, did a great job. Plus our door handle needed to be fixed he did that as well. Sat and had a drink with us. Looked at Sandy`s fridge but couldn't`t do anything for them as they were sent to a special person because of warranty. [Dometic are now coming to the party and giving them a new fridge] and so they should.
Tuesday 02-11-11
Today did washing, went to the office to pay for 4 extra days stay. When I got back, Tez was upset we had just found out that our sister in law Joan had passed away. After her battle with ovarian Cancer.
She was only 76 the new 60. We were so pleased we took the time to go visit with her before we left.
We had 3 lovely days at Diamond Head. Those  Memories will last forever.
Sarah and Matt were back at this Park also, by now. [staying in a tent] van still not fixed, been out to the National Park for a few days. They are supposed to leave tomorrow. Ha! Ha!
Seeing that the boys are hiring a boat and they have invited Matt to go fishing, It will now be the next day..... Or will it????
So the boys all took off for a fishing adventure. All the girls went with Sarah to Wobiri Beach. Then to all meet for lunch at Tantabiddi Boat Ramp.
We are all off at an early start. When we arrived at our destination Wobiri Beach. Sarah said" all those
Things in the water there not rocks you know, They are turtles." We all said " No Way" There were hundreds of them. They were so tired after laying their eggs that some of them were resting on the beach. OH! MY! GOD! it was  A M A Z I N G. I could have stayed there for the day. [ see the photos ]
We met the boys had lunch and went to Bundegi beach, Had a lovely swim.
This is such a beautiful Place. The boys caught fish so we all had tea together. It was a great day.
Sarah and Matt are definitely leaving tomorrow, even though Matt was trying for another day.
They said it was a little hard in a 2 man tent, they really needed to get their van fixed. So we will probably meet again down the coast. They are a gorgeous couple.
The boys had the boat for 3 days and made the most of it. Even though they were a little sea sick our stematil come in handy. Tez couldn't`t go the last day, His back was letting him down. So the girls went fishing with their husbands and we stayed and went to do some sight seeing to Charles Knife Gorge. and allot of other beaches. One of which was Wobiri so Tez could see the turtles, Or was it just because I wanted  to go back.....????? It was very nice. We have been back 3 times now and you don`t get sick of it. Oh! and we got to collect some more shells there. Clam Shells all sizes. He! He!
Exmouth is a Peninsular that covers 95ks of 22  beaches and Cape Range National Park and it is  all  extraordinarely beautiful  .They say that Exmouth is where the mountains meet the Reef and the photos show you how.
You can stand on the beach and look out to sea and see the Whales it is remarkable. I just love it.
Only one problem They have only 2 I.G.A stores owned by the same man in the same small centre one on each end, maybe 4 shops apart. It is ridiculous. and so expensive. so we have done very little shopping here we are waiting till we get to Geralton, to Woollies, that is another week away, So we had a meeting of what was in our cupboards and Freezer till then and made a menu for 10 days.
We went on a whale sunset cruise, saw a mum and a calf, they really put on a show for us. Even though it was windy we all enjoyed it.
We have been snorkeling at Turquoise Bay, What a great spot but it was very windy the day we were there. Also the boys had a go at Lakeside They thought that was even better. They got to see allot bigger fish there. We have been here for ten days now and it dose not seem like it, there was so much to see and do.
They say that all good things must come to an end.
Tomorrow we leave and head down to Coral Bay, only 155ks.
Except for the wind the weather is still unbelievable, not a cloud in the sky we are all very Brown. and healthy..
Hope you are all enjoying our blog... More adventures are on there way.

Wednesday 9 November 2011

Onslow. W.A.

Well this is our next stop the tiny coastal town of Onslow.
This town does not have allot to offer the tourist.
It has just in the throws of being a Gas works town, Off Shore, just like the one in Karatha.
So everything is taken up with miners or Mining.
We went for a nice walk along the beach, and back on the boardwalk.
On our way back we found Their lovely Memorial Park. It was so nice, they had it on the water where there was a steel Sunrise. On Anzac Day the sun would rise exactly where this is placed. It would look spectacular. Such wonderful planning.
Opposite the caravan park, was a park that offered a set of exercise equipment that we thought was a very good idea, it had signs to explain what to do and how to do each exercise. Also for what stage you needed to do and use each piece of equipment for what length of time.
The boys went down to the mouth of the Ashburton River. Where the lady who owned the Park said it was her favourite place to fish, for the first time they had a good days fishing. They caught, 3 bream 1 grunter, 4 trevally, and a barracuda. They were most impressed.
That afternoon, we went to a place called Old Onslow where we were supposed to see an old town with Onslow`s History.
Stephen drove us  80ks out to find signs only. Except for the old goal and police station. We couldn't believe it, we laughed all the way back to the vans.
The next morning we were to leave for Exmouth, as there was nothing else to see.
Tez was a little disappointed as he said this was the most fish he had caught and this place showed allot of potential.

Tuesday 8 November 2011

Port Samson.

Tez and I arrived at Port Samson on our own as the others had gone into the Karajini National Park for a few days, and we were waiting for our van to be fixed.
We booked into the Cove Caravan Park, Just beautiful, only six years old privately owned, and very well thought out. Everything was spotless.
As we drove through the town of Roebuck we were a bit skeptical, as that was dreadful.
It is amazing what another 30 ks can do.
That afternoon The others arrived. They were going to stay at a free camp on their way, but couldn't`t find shade, so decided to travel on.
We are now together again.
Whilst at Port Sampson we did quite allot.
We swam, cleaned our van of  80 mile beach red  dust, that took 3days .It was in every nook and cranny.
Sandy has had a cold sore on her lip, that she has not been able to get rid of , and I needed a script so we both went to Wickham to the doctors, a lovely young lady Doctor from South Africa
Everywhere we go, we keep running into people that we have met along the way in one park or another.
All these people are so friendly and share the places they have seen and the best and cheapest places to stay.
Sarah and Matt are one of those couples. They have  had some bad luck since we saw them last, Their camper van that wouldn`t wind up they have left  it in Port Headland were we got ours repaired.
That wasn`t a good idea as they wrecked their van after a week of stuffing them around.
So they went and picked it up. Still wrecked even worse than when  it went in.
Grease all over the inside cushions, also the bars bent. The poor devils were so upset. So now the have hot tailed it to Exmouth, to try and see as much as possible, before getting to Geralton to a Jayco dealer.
We all went on a day trip to Karatha, Dampier, Hearsons Cove, Where we all had a wonderful day.
We saw the off shore Gas works, This is incredible it is so huge, any one that is travelling in this area should take the time to see what is happening over this side of the country. It truly opens your eyes.
We saw the Salt pans for the salt mines. We had lunch at the most beautiful beach called Hearsons Cove. There is no sand all small shells.
I recommended to Matt and Sarah to go and see it. Matt went swimming. Stephen found out,
that two days before the beach had been closed as there were 2 large tiger sharks there. So all day we were waiting for them to return to the park. They were a little late. That was the day they drove back to Port Headland to pick up their van that wasn`t fixed. We were all so glad just to see them.
The boys went to a couple of places to fish but to no avail.
We did lots of swimming and just relaxing
The morning we were leaving Stephen arose to a flat tyre, so that held us up for a while as they didn`t know how to remove the spare. So how many Grey Nomads dose it take to change a flat tyre???????

80 Mile Beach. W.A.

Well It is the 18-10-11 Yvette's Birthday.
Carol and Stephen Opt to go straight to 80 mile and meet us there.
So we were off early to beat the heat,.We had a good run. Arrived at the turn off for 80 mile at 11am we had 10ks of dirt road to cover. Even though it was dirt it was pretty good, it was graded and sandy.
With only 5 ks to go, everything seized up, as if the brakes had been put on. Tez has gone, what the hell.
Lucky Sandy and John were in front of us, and we had our two way radio, as there was no phone coverage.
Thank you Telstra.
We were stuck fair in the middle of the road, with nowhere to go.
When we looked all around the van I saw that the suspension had come away , the Axel to the back two wheels had moved and the right back wheel was sitting against  the van.
We gave Sandy and John our N. R. M.A. card, with lots of trips back and forth to  the telephone box at the caravan park, John and Stephen, organised with N.R.M.A. for a tow truck to take the van to Port Headland. Also for us to be put up in a cabin at 80mile beach.
While waiting I walked the road and found The leaves, 3 of them that had fallen out of the suspension.
Tez and I didn`t want to leave our van out on its own, in case of Vandals. [but we really needn`t have worried.] Every single person that went by stopped to see if we were OK, did we need water, could they ring someone for us. It was A MA Z I N G . And quite allot of these people were visitors from overseas.
It truly makes you believe in the human race. We are not frighten out here at all. Every one is so special.
Young and old.
So I had to empty the fridge, pack food and clothes for 4 days.
23 -1/2hrs latter the tow truck arrived, a nice young man took it into Port Headland, we stayed at 80 mile Beach, no accommodation in Port Headland and if there was it was $350-to$400 a night. For one room, com paired to $179 at 80 mile Beach. For a cabin a night, N.R.M.A. were happy as that suited them.
So we stayed at 80 mile. It is renowned for all its shells, and did we have a great time. By the time we got there the girls had had a ball already. That did not stop us going again, it is incredible. Shells we had never seen before. Then two days of cleaning and packing them to bring them home.
There was allot of weed on the beach, and it was very windy so the boys didn`t have much luck with their fishing.
On the Friday The others left to go to Karajini National Park for 4 days then we were meeting in Port Samson near Karatha.
The van was fixed by Saturday. A $9-00 bolt cost the N.R.M.A. $409. No wonder our Premiums are so high. It was a rip off. But because you are in a minning town you don`t have a choice. They have the monopoly.
We drove 200ks to Port Headland picked it up, oh! what a mess, after being on a red dirt road for 23 1/2 hrs and a dirty yard for a week, did it need a clean.Plus we found that the shower skylight was missing, must have lost it off the back of the tow truck. Can`t get one till  Geralton, what a joke, This side of the country is incredible trying to get things fixed, and it costs the earth.
Booked into a caravan park, unpacked the car, went shopping, also had to buy a new computer as mine had died.
In W.A. nothing is open  after 12 noon Sat till Monday. So because all our banking etc is on line I had to get a new one there. So rush rush.
Stayed till Monday Morning Then Headed for Port Samson To meet everyone else.

Tuesday 25 October 2011

Port Smith. W.A.

Today is very hot 42deg
As we were driving in on the dirt road, we could see bush fires in the distance. Apparently the caretakers were a little worried as when we booked into the park a chopper pilot was in the shop and they were talking about them.
We arrived at Port Smith, no grass just red dirt. We were not right on the water like Roebuck, so Tez was ready to turn back.
After setting up we went touring around so we could see what was to offer. There was one house ,used to be a bird sanctuary. Sandy was talking to the lady who lived there when we were on our way fishing .
We drove10ks out to the cliffs beautiful, When we returned they told us you shouldn`t go out there because of the fires, Didn`t tell us that before. Couldn't`t swim or fish but very pretty.
Then approx 600 mtrs down the road we could swim at high tide, and that we did
The next morning at 5am low tide, we drove over the beach had breaky and went fishing,
All caught fish, But Tez was the only one we could keep, so we had it for tea that night, a snub nose dart, 12lbs. Not a bad fish,
The Park itself was very clean but not allot to offer. only stayed two days.
We got in contact with Cas and Stephen and said go straight to 80 mile beach instead of comming in to Port Smith.
In the morning when we got up ready to leave, there was ashes all over our cars. During the night you could smell the smoke, no one come to say anyting till we were leaving, then they said, watch the fires on the way out, as they are on both sides of the road, so if you take it easy should be o.k. If not turn around and come back, GREAT....
As we drove out there was a very large area that had burned out.
So on our way to 80mile beach.

Broome. W.A.

Well here we are in Broome,
What a magnificent Place this is, The Colours are just magic. Natures Pallet at its best.
The places to go, the things to see, We are sure we could stay here for quite awhile and just relax and take our time swimming, walking, fishing, etc.
Not one of us can get over the water here, we have all fallen in love with it and the red earth against it, with white sand. It seems like it should be pink or apricot, not so white.
The tides are something else they come in and high, Then they last only 7mins before changing. Then you can walk out up to 1klm before you hit water.
A M A Z I N G .
We have swam and swam and swam.
The weather is 32deg. We all have to remind ourselves that it isn`t  Summer it is now Spring. It seems like we havn`t had winter really. the weather has been so hot for so long.
Now it is very pleasant, with a nice breeze.
We are now all together again.
Carol and Stephen caught up Yesterday 6-10-11. Carol is doing allot better although her back is still touchie.
I am sure with all the swimming and walking, it will come good.
Stephen has a touch of gout to much of the good life.
Sandy and John, have returned today after their few days away at Cape Leveque. Absolutely loved every minute of it.
They reckon that it was the highlight of the trip so far.
Though when John saw the beach today he said this is pretty good as well. And it is.
John bought Tez some oysters back from Leveque, That his guide got off the mangroves.
Tez and I did some fishing on the Jetty while everyone was a away. Tez caught a nice Bream and a Coral trout.
So tomorrow the boys are off to see what they can do.
The fishing not so good, just drowning a few prawns and pilly`s. But enjoying it.
Been to the markets, Went on a picnic, on Cable Beach, you can drive about  15ks along there, that was a nice day also.
We went on a tour to Willie Creek Pearl Farm, that was very interesting.
Then we continued up the coast on a dirt road for 80ks to where they are protesting against the Gas coming on shore at James Price Point. It was almost to Cape Laveque. Had another picnic. BEAUTIFUL.
Come back and went to the open air movies, To see Red Dog. There were planes going over us ,as we sat in our deck chairs. The end of the runway was right beside us [. As Broom's airport is in the middle and divides the town.]
We laughed, Then we had bats flying over us, John and I got peed on, invaded by mossies, but it was fun.
Another experience.
Today John and Stephen are going fishing in a Kayak not good for Tez worst luck, he would have liked that.
The rest of us will just take it easy. And have another hard day at the office. Ha!Ha!.
John caught a small Barracuda, They said all they really did was paddle for two hours. Come back very tired.
The next day, Stephen and Carol had the day of their life . It started at 6.30 am. They went on a sea plane
to The Horizontal Falls. Then on a speed boat through the falls. then to Cape Leveque for lunch, Swam with sharks, Went to a hatchery, to a church, Then on a 4WD back to Broome. Got back at 5.30pm.
In time for sunset drinks on Gamtheaume bay.
We have had allot of relaxation time and that has been great. Lots of swimming, and walking. Oh and Eating.
I have been attacked by Midges again, this time pretty bad.
We went to the Pearl Luggers yesterday. Just Carol ,Sandy, And me . The boys washed cars, and went to the bank etc.
Then at 4-30pm time for drinks over on the water front, and take position for the Staircase to the Moon.
This occurrence is caused by the rising of a full moon reflecting off the exposed mud flats at extremely low tide, creating the beautiful optical illusion of stairs reaching the moon. It happens from March to October.
So we were fortunate enough to be here at the right time. Also to share it with approximately 2000 other people. Another fortunate thing was we were staying at the Caravan Park where this occurs. It is something else. Very spectacular.
They have a market set up around the park adjacent to the caravan park, with food stalls etc. So the boys had takeaway for tea, Great........No cooking.
Today everyone has gone down to the Jetty at the Port to go fishing. I cannot go in the sun at the moment with these rotten bites, never mind, plenty more days.
Well When we first started this trip, Tez said he would ride a camel, So we decided it would be on Cable Beach Broome, So tonight is the night.
We all said a Sunset ride then go out to Thai for tea.
Off we went had a sickaworkinsix Photo taken, Tez lasted approx 10 mins. But that was O.K.
Cas and I were quite comfortable, The others all said glad that is over, never again.
Dinner was delicious Tez had King Prawn Pan Thai I had Garlic King Prawns Yum!
Saturday was very busy, Shopping, to replenish food for our next leg. Plus get all the washing up to date.
Then starting to pack up.
Tomorrow we leave with Sandy and John, Cas and Stephen have the van booked in to have some work done on it. They are going to meet us in a couple of days at Port Smith.

Saturday 1 October 2011

Heading for Broome.

On Sunday Morning Sandy, John , Tez and I headed off toward Broome.
Carol still resting after hurting her back.
The Heat was starting to get to Tez, Plus me, I must admit.38 to 42 is up there, also the humidity is the thing that is hard to cope with, we seem to be in the pool quite allot. and you did`t want to walk.
Plus Sandy and John Have a Silver Wedding Anniversary coming up and they have booked to go to Cape Leveque. 217ks north of Broome, They want to watch out, we may just crash their [HONEYMOON]
It looks AMAZING.
We stayed at an over night free stay at Spring Creek That was good.
The next Day we stayed at another over night free stay at Mary Pool That was lovely On the Mary River.
There were cattle from the The Mary River Station., that we photographed.
The next  day we arrived in Fitzroy Crossing stayed at a caravan park for two nights, so we could go to Geikie Gorge River Cruise. We did that on Tuesday morning, and enjoyed it very much.
We were on a boat that held 54 passengers and there were 48, from all over the world, on tours APT.
Germans, English,  Australians, and Americans.
The Guide was a Japorigini. That is what he called himself. His Dad was Japanese and his Mum was Aboriginal.
A very well  informed and funny young man.
Glad we did the 8am cruise by 9am it was very hot already.
Left for Derby on Thursday, On our way we saw a muster, Sandy and I were out of those cars like a flash, we have been looking since we left Daley's Waters and were very excited, but would have liked a bit more dust and movement to photograph. Never mind we still got photos this time.
We are staying in the Kimberley Caravan Park. Derby.
Ian the man who owns it is a great guy, he has given us traps to catch the crabs with, as the ones Tez has brought from home, are illegal in W.A.
Here in the Park also is a very rare Peacock it is white. But very beautiful.
Since being in Derby, we have all been on different  scenic tours.
We had intended to go on flights but had been told they had all been cancelled. When we arrived in Derby and found they were still available, we were very pleased, and even more pleased with the price.
Tez and I went on a flight, from Derby over part of the Kimberley to The Horizontal Falls, In Talbot Bay
The  Thousand Islands in The Buccaneer Archipelago, To Koolan Island , Cockatoo Island , Where they mine the Ore Then on to afternoon tea at  Kooljaman The multi award winning Aboriginal owned  wilderness  camp at Cape Leveque. Where we also got to wander for an other hour before heading back to Derby through King Sound.
Oh my God , it was a day we will not forget for a long time.
It was  fantastic.
As Tez Is not able to do off road driving very much this was just what the doctor ordered. So we didn`t have to go on Sandy and Johns Honeymoon Ha !Ha!
Today Sandy and John Got up early and went on there flight to the Horizontal Falls and some of the Islands
and loved it,also.
Then we all headed to the Jetty to catch Mud Crabs. We caught 12 but were only able to keep 3.
Headed home for lunch and cook our catch.
Tomorrow we leave for Broome.
This Holiday is A M A Z I N G .

Tuesday 27 September 2011

Kununurra W.A.

Arrived in Kununurra On Wednesday, Just in time for Carols Birthday on the Thursday.
As we had no Veggies etc, Because of boarder issues it gave us time to shop. Not allot to choose from in Kununurra, But we have had worse.
We are staying at the Ivanhoe Caravan Park, as Emma ,Carol ,and Sandy's niece, is working her way around Oz And is living and working here.
When we arrived she was so excited to see us she was shaking, as she cuddled us all. God love her.
She has been amazing.
Thursday we cooked up a treat for Carols Birthday, We had  for breakfast  bacon and eggs, Lunch was normal, then chocolate cake for afternoon tea, Then cocktails a little latter on. And a  baked dinner of lamb and pork. plus Pavlova. with fresh fruit. No one could move..
The next day Emma had a day off so she took us up to Wyndham very small town but known for the town where the five rivers meet.
On the way we stopped a few times for photo shots, One was at the Grotto.
Had Lunch at the Five Rivers  Lookout, Then we did a short tour around the town at some of the tourist spots.
Near the big crock Tez met an old local  Mark, who come up for a chat. Tez said he had the saddest eyes.
We left the others at the mud flats as they wanted to hoon around on the mud flats so we headed for home.
Another lovely day, was had by all.
The next day we all did a 4wd full day tour of El Questro.
It started at 7am , we were all picked up out the front of Ivanhoe, By Larissa, Who was very nice. And very well informed. She took us to our first stop Emma Gorge. Tez stayed at the resort  while we went for a Med grade walk, to a waterfall, where some of the team had a swim. Then we walked back to Emma resort, where Tez was waiting patiently. We were then  given a lovely morning tea of, tea, Coffee, or juice, watermelon,Chocolate and caramel cake. Carol and Sandy were given a beautiful
almond and Jaffa cake. All set out on there veranda It was great.
We all then took off to Zebedee Springs which is 28-32 deg at all times.
After every one had had a soak, as a little small to swim, we then went to the Home Valley Station, for Lunch of Barra and Beef.
Then we were met by Amy, who took us in a 4wd truck all over the rest of the resort for another 3 hrs. Then we went up to Saddle back Ridge, for Sunset, Champagne and fruit Platter.
This place was so high up that we were in eye level with a helicopter, It  was A M A Z I N G . We then went back down to the Home Valley Station, Where Graham put us into a Troopy and took us back to the Caravan Park. Where we arrived at about 7pm. It was a huge day, we were all very tired, Tez pulled up pretty well. He was given top seating all day. It was Excellent.
For as long as I can remember I have always wanted to go on a postal flight. Taking me to the outback stations. As we have travelled I have missed out for one reason or another. Wrong time or something.
When I asked Emma about it she was onto it straight away, Bless her.
So on Tuesday I was on my flight.
I left at 8-30 on a Cessna Caravan holds about 13 passengers, even though there were only 4 of us and Josh the Pilot.
There was Amanda and her partner Garry, going to Theda Station. To meet her parents who had been working there while travelling Oz.
Then we had Wayne who was a professional  helicopter shooter for the dept of cattle control and conservation, in the Kimberley's.
We went to 6 Stations. Wyndham, El Questro, [Home  Valley Station] Elenbrea, Drysdale River Station,
Doongan Station, Theda Station, Then back to Wyndham, and Kununurra, altogether we were flying for 6hrs.
We stopped for 40mins at Drysdale River Station as that is where Josh had to re fuel. So we were able to go to the loo and eat our lunch , that we had to take with us .Also when the plane is stationary there is no air, so at 38deg you couldn't`t stay in there for too long.
It was so interesting talking to these people. You have to be a very special type of person to live out here.
The land is so vast there is no one for thousands of miles. As everyone of these properties is at least 1Million acres
At this time of year it sits at 38deg every day, and they say that that is not hot. the humidity is kicking in and it is starting to get uncomfortable.
It was a shame that the control burning had caused so much smoke Haze. It made it very hard to take photos
also to  see the distance.
The rivers stood out like snakes winding through the bush, It is a beautiful Country and we are very lucky to live here.
I was still on a high the next day. I loved every minute.
Last Night Emma and her friend Martina, Took us to the Pump house for dinner, It is on the river, and it is an old pump house.
It was great, Tez, Sandy, had Barra. John and Stephen had Pasta. Emma and Martina had pork.Cas had beef. I had Duck. and we had the best Garlic bread we have ever eaten.
All around the jetty where you sit were hundreds of Cat fish. We couldn't`t believe how busy this place was on a Wednesday night it was incredible. The food was beautiful.
Today has been very hot, We were cleaning the cars and vans as we were leaving tomorrow for the Bungles.
Then Carol  hurt her back, pretty bad.
Stephen took her to the hospital, as she couldn't`t get into see a doctor for two weeks.
He gave her pain killers and anti inflammatory, well she has had a reaction to them we think as she has been vomiting all afternoon. So Stephen has taken her back to the hospital .We are waiting to hear what has happened.
11-15 pm Stephen has just come back, they kept Carol in as they were worried she would dehydrate.
After 7 injections she still was vomiting.
Threw up over Stephen 3 times, he reckons it was revenge,ha! ha!.
Hope she is o.k.
Cas had a few problems for a few days, she was lucky in one way , that she was where her niece was living and she was able to stay in her accommodation.
We stayed an extra 2 days with her, but she was starting to feel better so the rest of us moved on, toward Broome.
The heat is really starting to come in up there, up to 40 to 42 deg. The humidity is incredible.
It was starting to get to all of us but Tez is really feeling it. Also Sandy and John wanted to be in Cape Levitt
for their 25th Wedding anniversary. So the four of us left together.
So we will be in front of Carol and Stephen for about a week.

Monday 19 September 2011

Lake Argyle.

As we left the boarder, the scenery changed dramatically, It was beautiful.
We stopped at a road stop for a cuppa, Sandy said this kicks Kakadus bum. And it did. It was beautiful.
As the kilometers went by it just got better.
Arriving at Lake Argyle Took our breath away, We just couldn't`t stop snapping pictures.
My new word for W.A. is SPECTACULAR. And this is that and more.
I said, AMAZINGLY SPECTACULAR.
The boys went down to the spillway to fish, they caught 5 catfish, Never had them before so we thought we would give them a go. So Tez filleted them and I cooked them in a very light batter as an entree. No one was fussed. So I don`t think We will be Keeping them anymore.
While down there at the spillway there was an illusive Barra hanging around, The boys tried everything for three days, Including Stephen throwing a rock at it.
Tez Estimated it as at least 30 kilo, it was huge, There were two but one was coming in closer than the other. But he still swims till another day, much to their sorrow.
Our caravan  Park was beautiful. The pool was something else but the water in it was freezing.
We all wanted so much to have a sicaworkinsix photo in the water, but it was too cold.
We went to the Durack Homestead, They owned 1 million acres all of  Lake Argyle. Before it was flooded.
They also owned another 4 stations of 1million acres each. Not a bad lot.
The night before we left we went on a Sunset cruise on Lake Argyle the best cruise ever, The people that were on it were so friendly. The boat was beautiful, comfortable. and the guide was incredible so knowledgeable.
All I can say is that Stephen was right ,everyone that lives in Australia should go and see Lake Argyle.
It is truly Beautiful.
The surrounds are so Majestic.

Timber Creek.

Hi Everyone,
We have just come through , the Victoria River Area of The Northern Territory. With a very big surprise for me.
Our stay this time was at a small town, called Timber creek, at a caravan park run by the Aboriginals.
It was very clean and well run. We had 3days of bad winds though.
Went out to see a Homestead, that was down a dirt road for 35 ks, with boabs everywhere just beautiful.
When we started reading about this homestead, Carol and I couldn't`t believe it. It was the Home of a family that I had searched out a book of, and we had happened at this place just by chance. I was so excited, as this was a station that I was hoping to fly over, on a mail run. Instead I ended up being able to walk all over it .
It just felt so unreal. It brought tears to my eyes.
Then after leaving, the homestead, we went 4WD over the area that these people had walked to come to this
Station.
It makes you feel so lucky to be in this day and age, with 4WD air con etc. None of which they had.
It took us 2 1/2 hrs to drive 20ks. Imagine how long it took them , to get here.
I just was in ore of this man. Mr. Charlie Schultz.
Then over the next couple of days the boys had a fish, to no avail.
also we went and did more sightseeing lookouts an old Police Station.
Then we headed off toward our net stop Lake Argyle.
On our way we had to go through Quarantine, as we were going into Western Australia.
The day before we left we were making sure we didn`t have anything that we shouldn't`t. ate all our fruit and veges. I kept saying to the girls, you sure we don`t have anything. No all is gone.
Off we go get to the boarder, They go through without a hitch.
This creep comes to Tez and I. We had a Broccoli box in our car, "You can`t take that in" , Why? "I have bleached and washed it out".
" Don`t think you are going to get on the soft side of me " he said.  [ I bet if I was 30 years younger it would have made a difference.]
So then I had to take the two from under the bed that I had other food stuffs packed in also.
I wouldn`t have cared if he had done his job properly, but he didn`t take the lid for the box out of the car.
didn`t check a 110 ltr box Tez had fishing gear in, that could have had honey veges anything in. I was so angry, as it took me all afternoon to re pack and clean the van. Not Happy Jan.
Not a good introduction to W.A.
The others new nothing of this as they had moved on and were waiting down the road.
Never mind another learning experience. Do not use Broccoli boxes to pack things in if you are going interstate, you can use fish boxes instead.
WE are all well and looking forward to the next part of our adventure.

Thursday 8 September 2011

Kakadu N.T.

Hi Everyone,
We hope you are enjoying our blog so  far. There is so much to see and do.
Well This is one of the more disappointing places that we have been to.
All of us feel the same way.
We went off to Kakadu with great expectations. Now I suppose you should not do that, just let it  all happen.
The weather as very hot 39deg. Heaps of Mossies, Midge's, March Flies, and ordinary flies.
It costs $25.00. per head to go into the park for your pass. Then $10.00 per person per night.
For That  there wasn`t even a light bulb in the toilets at night.
We were told it was Kaka Don't .
Although you do have to go and see it if you are here. But don`t just make a special trip.
The first stop was Merl, in the National park. We were supposed to be able to get big rigs in there,
Well with quite a bit of difficulty, and a few swear words, from  you know who, who also went into panic mode, we were in.Oh! and also we had to cut a part of a tree off to get in but we made it Yesssss!!!!!!
That night All had dinner everything seemed o.k.
Then Tez decided to go out for a smoke. [mossies don`t worry him] He come back in the van and he was covered, and I mean covered. Every one we squashed was full of blood so I had to wash the walls of the van as we had spots everywhere. The temperature was so hot. So only a one night stay here, Tez said I will pay $70 a night to stay in a park with a pool.
So the next night we booked into Aurara Kakau caravan park for a week and then we drove out to different sights.
I might say, we all gave there pool a great workout every day.
We went on a  Yellow waters sunset cruise. Flew over Kakadu and part of Arnhem land.
Went to Cahill crossing where the crocks were in abundance. We have never seen so many together in one spot. The ranger there said, the night before they went out spot lighting and saw 17 in 100 metres. Shows you how many there are.
We walked to Ubirr and did a sunset up on top the escarpment. Where we also saw Rock art.
All the way through Kakadu ,everything is being  controlled burned, because in the lead up to the wet season they have dry storms and they can have 1,000 lightning strikes a day, and the iron stone attracts the lightning and causes fire. even though they havn`t had rain yet, Everything is coming back very green already.
We Visited a few Culture centres, they were very well presented.
We went to Gunlon on our way out, It was nice.
But the road in was very rough 37ks of dirt ,rocks, and corrugation.
It was 39deg .  and at 2-30 pm Stephen and Carol climbed to the top, the rest of us stayed at the bottom.
and swam.
They said it was very nice, But it was to hot at that time of day for me.
We stayed at Mary River that night, Then on to Katherine, the next day.Where we had to replenish our stock of food.Wash cars, vans and clothes.
The good weather is still following us everywhere we go.

Tuesday 30 August 2011

Mary River N.T.

Thursday Hi we are staying at Mary River Park, only $23 a night. and what  a beautiful Park. We have great sites.
We went for a walk down to the river, and up to the pool, had a swim.
The park is green and lush, The people here are very nice.
We met people that were beside Tez and I at Oasis in Darwin.
Tez went and put His Cheribin nets in , but didn`t do any good. He also went for a fish ,There was a few crocks hanging around. Scared him off a bit.

Friday John ,Sandy, and I went on a cruise on the Corroborree Billabong.
We were met at The Tavern by a young man called Sean.
He was our tour guide, So knowledgeable, He had lived with the Aboriginals for six years.
We were on the billabong for an hour for thirty dollars, he picked us up and took us back.
We saw an amazing amount of birds and crocks and learned so much about the Billabong
Then we drove to Fog Dam A little disappointed, Walked all around.

Saw heaps of crocks, no way do you want to swim in these waters.

I had a bad case of Vertigo for two days, seems to have eased off a little now.

We left for Kakadu Sunday 28th

Darwin. N.T.

Hi everyone,
Well, we have reached Darwin, N.T. Last Thursday.
Every day is 34 deg. Clear blue sky`s. The only plus is this caravan park has a pool.
On Thursday night we went to the Mindl Market for dinner, lots of different varieties of food. Not allot of other stalls, or bargains.
The down side was we were all eaten alive by Midge's. Steven and I have been coping them for quite some time. But Tez and John also were attacked this time.

Friday, had a full day cleaning, after being at Dundee with dirt roads. It needed scrubbing.

On Saturday we went to the markets fruit and veg, Then replenished supplies
The girls arrived back early hours Saturday morning.
They had a nice time with family for the past week.

Sunday, went to an Asian market, it was good.Picked up Mango's, Star apples, Jack Fruit. Soft banana
waffles, Home made coconut and mango ice creams on a stick.
Then we did a tour of Darwin. We started at the Dockyards where the fishing trawlers all come in.
Then we went down to Fisherman's Wharf, and had lunch. I had a Crock Burger. I cannot tell you what it was like. As it was so thin  and covered in breadcrumbs, it had no taste. I was disappointed.
We then drove up to the Bicentennial  park, where Tez sat in the shade while we all walked.
Up past Parliament House, Government House The old Gaol, and Police station. Down the steps to the water, where you can swim . The gardens all through  Darwin are absolutely beautiful.
Along the waterfront to the chair theatre. then the trek up 100 plus steps to the top to meet Tez.
A very full day as usual, but a very nice day.

Monday, did allot of ringing around, time for new tyres on our car, and maintenance on the van.

Tuesday,  We dropped the car off to have our tyres replaced and then John  took us  around all day.
Went to the museum, where they had the Telstra awards for Aboriginal Art, That was beautiful.
Also had a section on Cyclone Tracey, even recorded sounds of what it was like on that day.Had morning tea in there cafe`.  Everyone enjoyed the the museum it was very well presented .Over looking Fanny bay, It was spectacular.
Then we went to Casurina Shopping centre, where Sandy needed to have her eyes tested. Yes she needed
reading glasses.

Wednesday we went to Mandorah on the Ferry across the bay, Had a nice lunch,a swim in the pool ,heard from Coralie.
On the way home we were down on the jetty waiting for the ferry, when an aboriginal guy,[ intoxicated]
come to have a chat. He had only half his teeth, personal hygiene left allot to be desired.
Over and over again he kept saying I think you catch something, and Tez kept saying I don`t have a line.
When he moved over to talk to Carol. Tez Said did he stutter.
When he was with Carol he started to sing to her. We couldn't`t stop laughing.
 Then he cuddled John,
The smell was pretty bad, So Sandy got out the wet ones on the boat and proceeded to wipe John over.
 Another great day.

This town is so clean , even the Highways. They have people driving along on 4 wheel bikes with big bins on them collecting rubbish. N.S.W. needs to take lessons.
We have been buying boxes of Mango's 19 mango's for $15.00  BEAUTIFUL. Rockmellons $3.00each , Large Pineapples $6.00each. Strawberries $3.00 a punnet. So lots of fruit every night after dinner. AMAZING.

Thursday Stephen Put his car in for service, while waiting for the phone call to say it was ready. Instead he recieived one to say someone ran into him, and he has $2000. worth of damage.
The worst part is there is a waiting list for work to be done of 4 weeks. Lucky it is drivable so he is having it fixed in Perth when we get there.

Friday we went to Crocodylus in Darwin, to see Crocs and Reptiles, that John and Carol held, not for Tez , Sand , and me. Thank you
Then off to a picnic in the park, and to the open day at Government House, Where we all enjoyed the gardens, and the home of the N.T. Governor. Beautiful.

Saturday. Sandy, John, Tez and I  decided to go to Fanny Bay, For a look.
On the way we found yet another market at Parap. Oh boy were they good.
They had clothes ,Jewelery, flowers, plants, veggies, food stalls, photo prints ect.
Sandy bought 2 dresses, I bought hair clips . Tez his spring rolls, he enjoys them. Lots of fruit and veg.
We liked them much better than Mindl.
We ate lunch and then we went to Fanny Bay walked around the waterfront, where the water was so beautiful.
It is a very pretty spot with beautiful homes, especially the white house.
Then we drove To East point reserve, past Lake Alexander, up to the Military Museum.

Sunday we thought today we would have an easy day we had a picnic lunch at Lake Alexandre.
We had prawn and Mango Salad, Oh! life is so hard Ha!  Ha!
Sat by the lake and had a beautiful day.
Went home and had a baked Pork Dinner.

Monday Tez went to the doctors to get new scripts.

Tuesday Tez and I had the Mobile Mechanic come to do a service on our van.
We new we needed to have the bearings done. Then he found that one of the leaf on the  suspension was cracked, and advised us to have our whole suspension renewed.
So we booked that in for Thursday morning on our way to Kakadu. Just as well as they said the other side was going as well.
Yesterday Carol and Stephen found out that their credit card had been skimmed, In America. They don`t know how , or when. It is under the Freud squad for investigation..

.
We went to the war museum, on the bombing of Darwin, Unbelievable.

For the past two weeks we have had a very busy time in Darwin, one way or another.

Dundee Beach

Wow ,
We arrived at Dundee around 11am, as we drove in all Terry could say was I can smell the salt.
All of us were met by our friends Sharon and Paul at the boat ramp. Right, smack, bang on the beach.
None of us had seen  salt water, since N.S.W.
We all got out of our cars going OOhhhh!!!My God. How beautiful is this.
Carol reckoned, Tez was like a kid in a candy store, and he was.
It is another beautiful part of Australia.Approx. 100 ks south west of Darwin.
Even though you can`t see it, It is almost surrounded by land.
During the day when they are burning off over the other side, it looks like the Timor Sea is on fire.
After all that, We booked in to the caravan park known as the Lodge. [as even though Shaz and Paul have 50 acres, it isn`t all cleared, and we had 3 vans, a bit much to ask.
Sharon and Paul drove us around everywhere, to show us sites available.
We all decided the Caravan Park was the shadiest and best for all of us.
So after setting up, Paul and Sharon, took us on a tour of  Dundee. It is not a big Place but I am sure in the past 5 days we have been to every nook and cranny of Dundee. Met everyone, Been outside fishing, John caught a  Spanish  Mackerel around 9kilo. Fed 8 people with some left over .
Caught  12 mud crabs, cooked and ate them, two days in a row, [what a life]. Could get used to this.
Today they went up the river and Tez caught a Golden Trevally, weighing 6kilo. took him 15 mins to get him in. So tea tonight??????
Paul went away for a couple of days with a neighbour, but left the boys his tinnie, to go fishing.
There is only one thing wrong here. you cannot swim because of the crocks. To make matters worse the water looks so beautiful.
Sharon, The day the boys went out fishing, took us three girls plus two other women, in her four wheel drive
and took us on a tour. It was Fantastic. Then Paul and Sharon come back to have dinner with us
Every afternoon we go to the waterfront to watch the sunset and have drinks and nibbles. No wonder I am not loosing weight. But what fun....
Tonight we are going to the Lodge to see an Entertainer called Fat Thomo??????
Will let you know.
Everything here is at a very slow pace. This will give you an idea.
Tuesday, Sandy and Carol went home for a week, to see their children.
Sharon had told us about this market on Saturday morning, said I needed to be the first in line for these nice pants, the girls and I wanted.
So up I get when the boys went Fishing. Keep looking out can`t see any movement.
So over I go at 8-30am, nothing.
Call at the lodge, " Is there a market to-day? " "Yes" What time. " 10am it starts. Oh! O.K.
Stephen said " at least you were first there".
Saturday night we all went to see Fat Thomo.
He is a Comedian ,who impersonates other entertainers, and interacts with the audience.
Needless to say John and I were the brunt of most of his acts.
We have never laughed so much in all our lives.
It is a bit hard to write it all down, but we do have it on video, we just can`t transfer it to our blog.
that is a shame, as I think you all would get a huge laugh out of it.
Paul come back on the Sunday night, rang and said we are all going out for about five hours tomorrow, be ready about 9am.
So off we go for one day in the life of Paul Smedley. We all pile into there Toyota  four wheel drive , boat in tow.
Started off up a dirt road on to the beach, then up through a property gate,., up into a mud patch  where we were bogged of corse.3/4 of an hr latter on our way again, through sand and tall grass we see pigs.
One boar five sours and six piglets. He stops the car jumps out starts running after one of the piglets.
Didn`t catch any, we don`t even know where they disappeared to.
Back in the car again, down to the beach driving along the sand.,Paul is still talking about the pigs, Sharon says isn`t that "Popeye mullet Paul?"
"Yes, great bait . Stops the car again, Pulls out a cast net runs down the beach to catch these mullet.
Drives down the beach to the Finniss  river,Launches the boat.and takes the boys fishing.
Sharon and I had a nice time walking, collecting shells, and taking Photos.Plus catching up on old times.
Then Sharon taught me how to use the cast net.
They come back, about 3hrs latter, Stephen has a nice Barra.
We have lunch,Shaz and I went crock Spotting down the river in the boat for about an hour . Camera at the ready. We spotted 12 all together. Some Would pose no worries, others took off into the water as soon as they heard the boat.Back to the beach where the boys were.
They all pile in again, off to do a little more fishing. [none this time]
The tide has dropped considerably, ,5 to 6 mt rs, so the scull drag the boat up the bank with a tow rope.
We all get in the car to go home sunburned, muddy, and tired.10hrs latter.
Oh! but what an adventure, it was fantastic.
We all had the best 9 days, with the most hospitable people you could want to meet.
Thank you both so much, for such a great time.

Monday 1 August 2011

Berry Springs

We are still in Litchfield but we had to move camp, as we had to do a shop. So we are here for two days.
Yesterday we left Litchfield to drive 60ks up the road towards Darwin.
We Laughed as we said we couldn't`t decide where to have morning tea, when we did  decide we were already at our destination
Went and did our shop. As we are going tomorrow to stay with some people we have known, for thirty years, but havn`t seen for about twenty years.
When Tez and I first come to the Central Coast we rented a house off this boys Mum and Dad, and they lived next door to us.
His wife Sharon was our youngest daughters girlfriend, when they were growing up and she lived in our street.
We have always kept in touch with Paul's Family, so he kindly invited us to come to Dundee Beach [100 ks
south of Darwin ] to stay on their 50acre property, for a week.
He has a tinny and mud crab pots waiting for us to use, so Tez is very excited.
So our next adventure will be from Dundee Beach.
This is a very disorganised town. No Tourist information centre, plenty of signs to tell you there is, but there isn`t. Flyer's with no phone numbers,no street maps, no street signs, and no signage for business.
Tez and John were going to go to a Barra farm to catch barra. Took approx 2hrs to find and 6people to ask as well as stopping at a house on the way.
Even the web site wouldn`t go through. When they finally got through on the phone, they were booked out.
We are all wondering how.
Stephen Carol and I, today went to The Territory Wildlife Park. It was Fantastic.
Then we met the rest of the group for lunch at the Litchfield Pub,That also was very nice.
Oh! thought I would just rub salt into the wounds, It is still 33deg. Every day.
We were only saying if this is winter, I don`t think I would like to be here in the Summer.

Litchfield National Park.

25-7-11
Today we are on our way to Litchfield National Park. To stay at Litchfield Tourist Park, for 5 days.
We took a secondary road for the first 30ks. Then the Stuart Hwy.
This place is incredible, every water fall , every walk, every water hole. Is just so pristine.
The water is so pure you can drink it. It has no minerals at all. Nothing will even grow in it.
We all say that our favourite swimming hole is Buley Rock hole. We went there a few times.
We went and saw the giant  Magnetic termite mounds. The Blyth Homestead Ruins. The lost City [that should stay lost] Six different waterfalls and plunge pools. Also went to the Bachelor Fair on Saturday that was good as well, for a very small town. Bought some Mango chutney and Rosella jam.
We all have really enjoyed our time here.
The owner of the property has allowed us to take a Jack fruit off one of the trees. We have to wait for it to ripen a little more, but can`t wait they are very nice.

Douglas Waters

We left Katherine on the 23-7-11 for Douglas Waters.
It is now 31 to 33deg, every day, pretty hard to take.
On our drive in today we saw our first Cattle drive, all on horse back.It was on us before we new it, so no time to take a photo.
I was so disappointed, It felt for the first time as we really were right in the outback of  Australia.
We are staying at a caravan park called, Douglas Daly for 2 days,Great spot, very pretty, with lots of birds.
More hot springs, but I think we will have to go a long way to find hot springs as good as Mataranka.
When we went down to this one, one of the holes was 55deg. It was hard to put your foot in let alone your body.Although there was one man and a lady stayed in there for at least 30 minutes, how we don`t know.
They should have been cooked.
Tez went fishing yesterday to drown some prawns, caught 20 fish sooty grunters all to small, The only thing that was big was a Python on the bridge that was between him and his car. So he couldn't come home. He!He! [Photos available, click on N.T.]
Very nice Park lots of wildlife, Very Tropical, clean, and well cared for..
Tomorrow we head for Litchfield National Park.

Saturday 23 July 2011

Katherine

Today we are headed for Kathrine.Another beautiful day 32deg, Only 104 kl ms. We left at 8am as the Caravans are starting to double  in number each day now as we go further north, so it is getting to the stage first in best dressed.
Allot of the parks you cannot book.and we want to stay at least 5days here, as there is so much to see and do.
Did  our shopping, As  you shop only in big towns. Then even fruit and veg is expensive, in Woolworth's,[ but we share the costs of them].
Went to The Tourist Information centre, to find out and book our tours etc,
Booked into a very nice caravan park 9ks out of Katherine.Springvale Homestead.
To day Carol Sandy and I went to the Cuta Cuta caves, The boys didn`t want to come, so they were going to find where to fish. [have to watch for Crocks they have already caught a 14mtr one this month].Going by the girl in The Information Centre.
Boys din`t do any good fishing. Caves were O.K.
Wednesday went on a boat cruise down the Katherine Gorge, for four hours. That  was so beautiful.
We saw 6 Crocks, all freshwater, ranging from 2 to 5 mtrs.
There were two indigenous boys who took us down the Gorge. they had the best sense of humour, it was fabulous.
The only thing is , I have to put my hand up now. I have the flu,[ like half of Katherine] and it started the day of the cruise, so I didn`t feel to good. But as they say, "Toughen up Princess".
Today has been a relaxing day.
Tomorrow we head for Litchfield National Park.

Tuesday 19 July 2011

Mataranka

We left the pub at 9am 26deg In the last 300ks how much warmer it is getting. [Thank heavens]
Arrived at 11am was only 100 ks from the pub, so was an easy drive today, very pretty though, the wattle is becoming very thick, on the sides of the road.
As today is the 16th Tez`s Birthday we had a nice dinner of marinated pork ,fried rice and salad. Topped off with home made apple pie and cream.[ you can see why we are not loosing weight.] as we do not go without.
Mataranka is a very small town with thermal springs, being there main source of appeal. And they are
AMAZING [everyone is fining me ,every time I use that word. It is very hard not to.] As there are so many places and things that come into that superlative.
There are two places you can go but we all like Bitter Springs the best. They are at a constant temperature of 32deg in a natural spring. Little fish and heaps of growth under this beautiful clear  water. You just get a noodle, put your thongs on the ends, and float with your goggles down  to the end  of the spring, then walk back. There is a slight current that takes you down. It is wonderful
I have written this piece over three days, so we are now up to the 18th.
Today  we all went to see the people we met from QLD, Geoff and Anna. They come around yesterday to see us, told us where they were staying, not far from where we were.
So Cas, Stephen, John, Geoff, and Anna, all went for a walk 8ks round trip.[ going by all of them latter they all said lucky we didn`t go it wasn`t that good. Very hot, very soft sand and hard going.
Terry and I went to their camp site, Tez went  fishing,[only to throw away a few lures, didn`t catch anything] I sun baked and wrote letters. Sandy still wasn`t up to scratch so she stayed at our camp.
Then it was time to go back, start to pack up, ready to move on  tomorrow, to our next adventure in Katherine.N.T.

Sunday 17 July 2011

Daley Waters Pub.

When we left Tennant Creek we were to stay at Newcastle Waters. When we reached there, there wasn`t enough room for us to park in safety. So we all decided to drive on to Daly Waters a day early.
Lets just say it is a very old Country Pub with heaps of atmosphere.
We arrived there at approx 1pm Lined up to book in as there are so many people there. They Have an offer Powered site $24-00 a night, A beef or Barra Dinner $27-00 per head.[grilled or b.b.q] It was great.
Entertainment all sixties music, The place was really rocking.
In the bar there is Undies, bras, overseas currency,Business cards, caps, T shirts, football Jerseys, a thong pole and heaps of memorabilia. We had a wonderful night.
The next morning was Tez`s Birthday, So after a slow start with phone calls from family,[ That was very nice.]
we went and put our Thong on the pole, We signed it the Sicaworknsix with all our names, and tied it to the pole.
This is one of those places off the beaten track that everyone should take the time to go and see. [well worth
the look.]

Wednesday 13 July 2011

Tennant Creek

13-7-11 Cloudy and windy day.
John has Man flu, {his turn}.
So Sandy drove the 100ks today. If we can we will stay 2days at Tennant Creek for him to rest.
It has also given us time to do our cleaning and washing.{that never goes away}
On our way this morning we passed the people we met from Qld. They were camped along further at Bonney Well Rest area, as they left it to late and couldn't`t get in with us. There camp looked O.K. though.
We plan to meet them again further along.
Booked into The Outback Caravan Park, for two days.
We had lunch, By this time we were all in Summer clothes. Oh! that feels nice.
Went out to see the sights of Tennant Creek. Didn`t have to Travel far.
Saw the Pebbles [and they are, after the Marbles.] Went to the Overland Telegraph Station, It was the first in Australia. [not many photos card was full so had to down load]
Called into Lake Mary Anne. Beautiful. Decided to go for a picnic lunch tomorrow.
Come back to camp, it was so warm off come the flannelet sheets. Cas packed all her winter clothes into vacuum bags. We did a Spring clean of the vans. We are now ready for our picnic and warmer weather.
Woke up this morning to showers wind and cold, We can`t stop laughing.
Can`t do much except catch up with our blog, and let you all know we are having a wonderful time.
Tonight we went to a bush tucker demonstration, with this funny little man called Jimmy Hooker.
Never learnt to read or write. Lived in Tennant Creek all his life. Recons no one else would "av im".
He gave us camp oven damper and Golden Syrup, And Lemon Grass Tea.
He Said, "I used to live on road kill, There were only 3 things you had to worry about, The petrol, The tar,
and the blue metal. That is why I have no teeth He!He! and he didn`t. Everything he sold was just $5.00 a bag.We laughed and laughed. He told some funny stories.
So off we go again.

The Devils Marbles.

Hi everyone,
Left Alice Springs on Monday 11-7 11. The temp was 0 deg,  at 7am, very cold, but warmed up as the day went on.
We all said the same thing about it that we were very surprised at what Alice had to offer. We would all like to go back some day.
But we are on the road again for another adventure, to The Devil's Marbles. We travelled 300 ks .
We stayed the first night at Taylor's Creek, it was a free camp. There were quite a few vans there when the end of the day come along. That left 100 ks the next day.
That was good as John has man flu now , It is his turn.
On the way, we stopped at a place called ,Wycliffe Wells. Home of the most U.F.O.s sighted. [a good lurk]
gets the customers in.Although it does have a very nice caravan park. [big 4] [we didn`t stay] but looked nice.
A good photo opportunity.A short drive to The Devils Marbles. Where we will camp for the night.
The weather is still holding in there for us, it has been cool mornings, beautiful days. We are all starting to get suntans.
Arrived at the marbles at 10-30am as we were told to get there early, as it is a National Park, only costs
$3-50 per adult. So to get a good spot, be early.
Had morning tea of we went, walking up, down, in, out and around. It is a mystical place, I found it very relaxing.
Tez loved it as well, we have him walking his legs off.
There was 54 vans by the end of the day, incredible. You would never be frightened out here. Everyone is doing the same thing.
Have seen a few dingos around the camp.
Very windy over night not cold though.
left at 8-30am.

Saturday 9 July 2011

Alice Springs

July 6th
We have come back to Alice as there is still so much to see.
We went to see school of the air. The flying Doctors Service, Dr Flynns Grave. and The Women of the Outback hall of Fame, All very worthwhile.
Then we went to the Camel cup, that was so much fun, no betting though. So we had our own system going.
Each race cost $2.00 pick a camel. If no one`s camel won it all went into the next race. Sandy took home the money.
Today we have to shop as we leave tomorrow for the Devil`s Marbles. So things start toget expensive again.
So fill with fuel, grog, and food. Also wash, as there is mostly free campping.

MacDonald Ranges.

July 3rd
Today we went free camping out to the West MacDonald Ranges .
Every day we went to a different Gorge as the are up to 150ks from our camp.
You think after seeing one set of mountains, you have seen them all, but that is not the case. They all have their own beauty. Everyone is so spectacular.
We have had another camp oven baked dinner, this time we had shanks. Oh! it was good.
That seems to be the problem even though we are doing lots of walking ,we are also doing lots of eating.
The views from our campsite are amazing.

Alice Springs

June 25-6-11
Drove into Alice Springs, what a surprise.
The town is so well st out, it is lovely, rolling hills, even though it is dry the tree lined streets are so clean and it looks lovely.
It is a well planed city.Did our shop.
Next day went to the markets, where we met Sandy Taylors sister. Organised to have dinner with them the next night so Kevin could fill us in with some places to go as he had come from where we were going.
Steven, John, and Sandy made arrangments to have a golf day, with the people we had met from Qld.
When we found out it was a proffesional course, Tez and I pulled out.[ would have been a wasteof money and their time.] as we have never played before. except for the Curtain Springs Cup He!He!
So we caught up for lunch. At Mr Bo Jangles Saloon in Alice Springs. [That was great]
We have been to Telegraph Station down on the Todd River. Anzac Hill, Desert Park,
We spent three days touring the east MacDonald Ranges and parts of Alice. All very worthwhile.

Kings Canyon

June 21-6-11
Drove to Kings Canyon, on, Lasseter hwy.
The road was a little narrow, saw camels and wild horses along the way.
It is another glorious day.
All of us except Tez went on a helicopter flight over Kings Canyon. WOW. It was fabulous.
This country is so vast. Then we walked all around the camping area.
June22-6-11
Today we went to Kathleen Springs, it is a nice leisurely walk, Tez come with us and enjoyed it. In the afternoon we did the base walk around the Canyon. Come back and the people we met at Curtain Springs were there, so chatted with them also saw dingo`s in the park.
Lucky we have our own toilet and shower as the facileitis's in the park are dreadful.
June 23-6-11
Today we did the Rim walk around the Canyon I made it , but never again.
I have never been so frightened in my life, my heart was pounding ,my legs were wobbling,my hands were shaking and all I could think of was that I had to come back down. It was so steep. All day you were up and down. I didn`t realise I was afraid of heights to that extent.
But that is another one I can mark off the bucket list.
June 24-6-11 left the Canyon.

Uluru

June 17-6-11 Another great day.
Arrived at Uluru camp Ground around 11am, To do 8 loads of washing between us.[That never stops]
Then we walked around the complex. [that is very large]
Late afternoon up to have drinks, for sunset looking over the Rock.
The wattle is about to bloom in about 2 weeks it will be a picture. All the Thrip is every where.
We feel very privileged to see the outback with such colour.
There isn`t many animals as there is so much food, there is no reason , for them to come close to the roads, to pick.
Next day we went to the Rock and walked the base, there were so many different aspects of the rock.
To touch it felt like  cement render, to look at it was like looking at  paper mac he`, the markings, the boulders, the colours, The grains all going in different directions.
There are billabongs, plants growing on the rock. and it has this Eyre of mystery   about it.
Steven had a go at going up the Rock but only got to chicken rock.
We then returned in the afternoon for the sunset and drinks and bickies.
Next day had a lazy day.
June 20
Up at 5-45 am
Sunrise and breakie at the Olga`s. They are magnificent.
Had breakie out there and started on our walk to Walpa Gorge.[ Tez made it 1/3 of the way , that was good..
We all liked it more than the Rock.
Tez ran out of beer they wanted $38.00 for six beers. he said he would rather drink water.[ that was a first.]

Curtain Springs.

June14-6-11 Another great day.
Stopped the night at the N.T. & S.A. Boarder.[free camp] It was very cold once the sun went down. We also found out that the mice were still around.
We had gone into our vans, some other young people, who were also camping out, started screaming, Their little boy come running out saying, " has another one run up your leg Mum?"
I would have died.
Next morning we woke to ice all over our cars.
We continued onto a Place called Curtain Springs [free camp]Where we stayed for 2days.
Met some nice people from Qld. in Winnebago`s [very large ones] They are Geoff, Anna , Sandy and Harley.
Steven`s Birthday so I made apple pie for a birthday cake. All the others played golf around the camp site
[ made their own course, incl Tez who has never played in his life.]
It was lots of fun.

On the road again

Today is Tuesday 24-5-11 left Terramungamines at 8-15. & 15 deg Heading down the Newell Hwy, To Cobar.
It is sprinkling rain not much at all.
Our first stop today is Nyngan, to see Craig and Trish. Sandy and Carols nephew.
We passed through Naramine.
Tez and I have had trouble with the car, it keeps getting stuck in park.
Stopped at Craig and Trish`s for cuppa.
They had a big problem with mice. Everything had to be put in large plastic containers.
Then contiued on to Cobar.

Friday 8 July 2011

Went to the Breakaways, The dog fence The moon Plains and Oodnadatta Track.
ONe moment you are driving along on a flat plain, with not a hill in sightfor miles, then youturn a corner &

Wednesday 29 June 2011

Woomera

Left Port Augusta 8-6-11.  8-37 am
Travelling on the Stuart Hwy to Woomera.
Passed a freight train going south, it had 78 carriages.
One side of the road is so flat, the other is hills.
The roads are great, alhough we are passing alot of road trains heading south.
We camped at Spuds road house, Pimba. Had a quick lunch, went to Woomera.
visited both the museums and all the rockets and missiles ect, a very interesting place.
It is a very cold night, Terry and the boys stayed outside drinking .
9-6-11
Up early and on the road to Andamooka and Roxby Downs.
The drive there was good. Today the boys went in one car and te girls in the other.
We drove to Andamooka first Oh! my God.The look on our faces must have been priceless.
Terry said "we have just reached the arsole of the world"
It to me was the town that had no pride, it was dirty, dusty, and dry.
Not a garden in sight. we saw one so called plant it was a weed.
There were historic dug out huts. One belonged to Jack Absolums Dad.
Who would want to live there I would never know [ not me].
So off we went to Roxby Downs just 30ks down the road. But you would have thought we were in another country.

Roxby Downs we had lunch. Terry is pretty sick with the man flu
from being in the wind last night
Today is just as cold ,windy and blustery. But the sky is clear.
What a difference 30 ks makes.
Went back to the van for the night. During the night a young man come in beside us he had hit a Roo, He was in a Ford Sedan, it was in pretty bad shape. He was in his twenties, very lucky he was not hurt.
We were up earlyto go to Coober Pedy.

Port Augusta

June 5th 9am. Beautiful day once again.
Left free campsite 19ks outside of Hawker, heading for Port Augusta.
We stopped for morning tea at Quorn. Richi Richi Railway1778. Everyone went for a break had a walk around.
Terry had been going mad about the rail spikes, saying we would have to take these silly things all around Oz, It was rediculous. He walked into the station to find they were selling them for $15.00 each.He now has a change of heart
arrived at Port Augusta Lunch time ,set up, did washing, went shopping for groceries, as it is very expensive from here on in. So we had to stock up, except leafy vegies, can`t take them over the boarder into N.T.
Had the most beautiful vanilla slice.I also introduced John to a vanilla slice. [John is from Canada]
June 6th
Today we went to the Wandlate.Outback centreIt was very interesting but very cold
Booked a 2 1/2 hr cruise for 9ks up the top end of the river
June 7th
Today,John , Sandy and I went on the cruise, up the river, seeing more wonderful sights.Learning all about
the area on the side of western Australia, It is called The Eyre Penninsula.
We saw dolphins a mum and a baby.
Tasted  kangaroo and smoked yellow fin king fish. very nice.

Come back and Sandy played hairdresser, doing Carols and my hair.

Tuesday 28 June 2011

Hawker

The trip is unreal, The Flinders Rangers are amazing, they are so majestic.
Along the way we see so many buildings that are made of stone. Some are farms, others we found out are homes for Shepard's quarters, where land owners had no fences they would build these homes for Shepard's to look after their sheep.
Although the floods still did their job as well, and took away the homes from families.
You can`t believe that such  beautiful homes could be hit by such devastation.
We have only been on the road for two weeks and already this country is bringing tears to my eyes, and taking our breath away,
Passed through the town of Orroroo, beautiful homes, The streets are tree lined and so clean.
The town of Carrieton is one church and one pub.
Arrived at Hawker stayed at the caravan park for 2 days, long enough to do our washing and look around for a free camp site, and we did.
So off we set for another 5 days free camping. We had camp oven baked dinners, fire non stop, and travelled every day in and out of the Rangers. It was magic. Terry loved it.
Sandy and John took a day flight over ,the Flinders ect.
