Di & Tez Living the Dream

Thursday 23 August 2012

Ballina & Evans Head N.S.W.

Well Tez is in his element, back in his old stamping ground Ballina.
Where he knows the fishing spots etc.
We are staying at the Big 4 caravan park at Shaws Bay, That is east Ballina, right on the Messingham Bridge. So you have the Richmond River one side and Shaws bay the other, and straight down the middle you have the most amazing Break wall that you can walk out to the Bar and watch the boats trying to get out to sea or  watch  the dolphins playing in the waves at the opening of the Bar.
The Fish and bird life that you see early in the morning  in Shaws Bay is incredible.
The walk along the break wall would be about 2ks long so it is constantly used by walkers, joggers, mothers pushing prams whilst exercising,  and fisherman. You are never alone out there.
Tez has been doing well, he has been catching a couple of fish a day. So we have been eating fresh fish regularly.
The caravan park, when we booked in. For every 4 days you stay you only pay for three, plus you get a free breakfast, of juice cup of tea or coffee a roll with egg and bacon. Very nice and not to be sneezed at. The park is very clean and the owners are very helpful and cheery.

We spent 10 days at Ballina the wind was dreadful and cold.
After three days of fishing the fish went off the bite, so it become a little disappointing.
We walked and went to Lenox head at Lake Ainsley market on Sunday. That bought back a few memories of  Zoe and Codey when they lived at Georgica we used to swim there in what they called the coke a cola water. As it was stained from the Tee trees. It was a small but very good market.
Our stay bought back lots of memories.

On Thursday morning we left Ballina and drove south for one hour to Evans Head.
Tez and I had been here years ago with Mary and Ken for a picnic, It looked nice so we thought we would come and stay a while.
When we rang to book the Lady said she couldn't`t get us into the park but we could stay by the river.
We had no idea what she meant by that , but it sounded o.k. so I said o.k.
After arriving we found It was an overload for the park, but they now use it all the time instead of just Easter and Xmas.We think  it is better than the Park we are right on the water and it is beautiful. Once again there is a lovely walkway all the way around the water, 2mins from the shops that you can walk to.  so very relaxing.
After we set up Tez went to get some Nippers for bait, was so sore couldn't`t move in the afternoon.
So left the fishing till the morning every throw in caught a bream only to return it to the water as it was too small.
We have met some lovely people next to us from the Gold Coast Michael and Raewyn. All so there are some other nice people across the road, Jo and  They are travelling around permanently and have been for six years. He is a very tall man, so they have had their Retreat van custom made to size.
The Beach here is 7 kilometres long, every morning I have been walking with Raewyn we are doing about 5 kilometres, and I need it.
We are really enjoying it here, I even went and booked for another week. The weather has been perfect and Tez is catching a couple of bream a day, so he is content as well.
The Bowling Club has a Chinese Restaurant that Tez had to have a prawn omelet. It is like the pie shops, Tez has a taste test going around Oz. Here he found a Pot Belly Pie, It received a very good rating. The Prawn Omelet also rated very high.
The dolphins today were in the bar chasing fish, by the time I ran and got the camera, some kids had frightened them away. Everyone was so annoyed, as the water is so clear you could see everything.
Every one in the Park has been taking advantage of the weather, there are about 7 Kiaks and every day they have been on the water. We are even starting to get our suntans back.
The weather for ten days has been incredible.
For the first time today the wind is blowing although we are protected quite a bit.
Raewyn and I have walked every day for 80 minuets down the beach. But today I lost my walking partner, Michael and Raewyn have gone home today.
They were a very nice couple. Wonderful sense of humour.
For the past two days it has been so windy, time to tidy the van. Can`t do much else.
Tez has just gone to see if he can find a spot out of the wind to have a fish, Don`t like his chances.
Although I don`t think we are coping it as bad as some of the other places on the coast.
Just have to read, knit or watch D.V.D's. I am still walking, just not on the beach.
We just received an email from the Real Estate, to let us know our Tenants will be in our house till the end of September. So we will keep roaming....
Left Evans Head after two weeks of complete rest, just fell in love with the place.
Continued on to Nambucca Heads for one night only, Just to catch up with Danni Pete and Mia,
Also Carol and Stephen were there seeing Tony and Jo. So we got to catch up for drinks with them.
