Elliott Heads & Burrum Heads

We headed off  on the 30th of  June heading for Burrum Heads, after the lady at reception having a miss understanding over the size of our van, said she couldn't`t fit us in.
So we decided to go up north Further to be warmer, so we ended up at Elliott Heads.
We had been in this area 25years ago with Carmel and David but didn`t come to Elliott Heads.
This is a very nice relaxing beach side town. With a caravan Park, and a shop nothing else
We feel a little strange as I think we are the only people from N.S.W. everyone else here is from Vic.
It is very hard to find somewhere to stay Because of the Victorians,  everywhere is booked out. We can only stay for 4 days.
So now after speaking to the lady at Burrum Heads we are going back there for 2 weeks.
What a mix up.
Our stay at Elliott Heads has been wonderful, the people are very friendly, very willing to help in any way.
Fresh Strawberries straight from the farm $7 per Kilo. Tomatoes $2 half a bucket any size or colour.
Beautiful Tomatoes, with taste.
We spent a day and went back to all the places we were at 25 years ago, also some new places as well
such as, The tiny town of Coral Cove, it is surrounded by a golf course. Inness Park, Bargara, has the most beautiful homes and lovely village atmosphere. Mon Repos is where we stayed  when we were last here. Now you can`t stay, as it is a Turtle Rookery, There is a beautiful Caravan Park there   but they have closed it down that is such a shame. Then we went on to Burnett Heads. It has not come on at all, it looks exactly the same.
All of these towns are on the coast, so most of the beaches, are volcanic rock and large lucky stones. Great walkways and beautiful parks.
Then you go to Burrum Heads and it is all sand. It is 36kilom north of Hervey Bay, so it is probably part of the great Sandy spit of Fraser Island.
On our way down to Burrum we called into Childers for a break.
That is a very busy town. Very well set up for travellers. In one of the back streets they have an area   with enough space  to park your caravans.
After a short stay we were on the road again, The Bruce Highway is also disgusting. I don`t know what people are to do if they get a flat tyre, as you cannot pull off to the side of the road. There is no shoulders.
Arrived at Burrum Heads the site is the worst we have ever had so tight, but as usual you can rely on your fellow travellers, they come out to help.
There are nice walks, a few little shops, no fish [ beginning to think there are none left in the ocean]
On Saturday morning we went to a market at Howard where we were very pleasantly surprised. As this is a very small town.
We were able to get most of our produce, and the market was quite large.

On Saturday night The people in the park put on a Xmas in July, It was very nice. The night started at 4pm for pre dinner drinks, that you take yourself.  $22 per head Ham,  Pork, and Turkey all cooked on a spit, Potatoes, Baked Pumpkin, Carrots. Peas and beans cooked with onion and bacon, plus cauliflower in cheese sauce. Gravy, Apple sauce with bread rolls and real Butter...... Desert was Xmas pudding and custard.
There were lollies on every table, plus Santa arrived and gave out gifts. also they had a lucky door prize one for males one for females. There was 120 turned up. They played 60`s music after, till about 10pm, as everyone turns into a pumpkin after that. Because they are all Peno`s. In bed by 8pm.
The only thing that spoiled the night was the temperature and the wind. It was quite cold, even though they put up tarps everywhere to try and stop it.
I am sure everyone still enjoyed the night.
On Sunday we went to Hervey Bay to see if it had changed since we were up here last. Allot of high rise, plus like everywhere else lots of shopping centres. not quite as much as we thought.
I wanted to go on another Dawn Whale Cruise, But they don`t start till the 28th of July.. Bugger....

We also wanted to catch up with some old friends of ours. But found out that after 48years of marriage they have broken up and are no longer in the area. So we don`t know where they are..
That was very sad, Tez used to go to school and live in the same street with David, he also did  a boot making apprenticeship with him.
When we were married David drove his car for us.
They had a daughter who lived in Bateau Bay,every time they were down they would come in and see us. Tried their daughter, even she has moved. So no more leads. We were very disappointed.

Today we had to go back to Harvey Bay to send Hannah`s  21st Birthday Present.
Happy Birthday Han for Sunday.....
